| Bordering Lake Michigan and Silver Lake, the remarkable Silver Lake Sand Dune Access area consists of nearly 2,000 acres of rolling sand hills 1.5 miles wide and 3 miles long. The dunes are open annually from April 1-October 31.
Vouchers are required on weekends and holidays in order to gain access to the dunes. Holidays vouchers are also required on weekdays. There are two types of vouchers: dune ready vouchers and parking lot vouchers. Dune ready vehicles are those that have no need for the parking area and go straight onto the dunes. These vouchers are available in 2 hour time increments (i.e. 9am-11am) which is the time window you have to enter the dunes. However once you enter during your voucher time frame and get it validated, you can freely go in and out of the dunes area without the need for another voucher, as long as you show your validated voucher. Parking lot vouchers are for those who require a parking spot for their trailers or tow vehicles. Parking lot vouchers are only available the day of. They typically go fast on holiday weekends and lines form the night prior on Ridge Road in order to get vouchers for the next day. Both vouchers are free to park visitors and are distributed from the Off-Road Vehicle Voucher Center located at the corner of Fox and Ridge Road, to the east of the dunes entrance gate.
Visit the State of Michigan DNR Website for rules, sound requirements and to learn more about the vouchers. ORV and state park stickers are also needed for admittance to the dunes as well as flags. Although we do not sell ORV or state park stickers we do keep an inventory of dune flags for sale to get you one your way. |
